Kingfisher launches Chennai-Salem flights

rivate sector carrier Kingfisher Airlines today became the first airline to launch daily direct flights between Chennai and Salem in Tamil Nadu.

The flights, operated with the ATR family of aircraft, are part of the Kingfisher Red service, which is its low-cost offering.

The Kingfisher Red service features complimentary food and a choice of beverages, reading material, frequent flier privileges and multiple check-in options, a press release issued by the airline said.

Flight IT 4737 will leave Chennai at 2.50 pm and reach Salem at 3.50 pm. The return flight, IT 4783, will take off from Salem at 4.20 pm and land in Chennai an hour later.

"The launch of this route marks the first time ever that any airline is operating flights between these two cities. With our excellent onward connectivity, we expect that these flights will offer businessmen and political leaders a convenient option. This new direct flight will offer travellers an easier and more convenient way to get to Mumbai, Delhi and Hyderabad from Salem via Chennai," Mr. Prakash Mirpuri, Vice President-Corporate Communications, Kingfisher Airlines Limited said.

Kingfisher currently onnects 67 cities in India and 7 international destinations and has more than 360 daily departures with a fleet of 69 aircraft. The airline is part of the Vijay Mallya-led UB Group.
